The settling-in period os flexible and will last as long as your child needs. Any member of your family who has attended the parents workshop can be with your child at the school during that period. Different family members can come on different days, it does not need to be the same person always.
If you have children under three, they can also be with you during this period, but please consult first with the pedagogical team. Your baby or toddler will need to be under your supervision at all times.
You can come into the school for pick-up and drop-off, and spend a few minutes at the school. You can come to celebrate your child's birthday. You can also give a workshop at the school. The rest of the time, since we don't have a designated space for parents, we think it is better that children have the school to themselves.
Your whole family is welcome to come with us on school outings. If you'd like to join us, just get in touch with our facilitators so we can organize everything.
At Kaleide young people can play with water, sand or mud, paint and clay. They can get wet and dirty. If they get wet we will help them dry themselves and warm up of necessary.
We never stop children from going outdoors (even if it's raining), taking off their clothes or getting wet. If your child is feeling unwell, please don't bring her to school until she can take part in all activities. Young people learn so much from these sensory experiences –playing with water, soil, paints, clay... This ultimately means that at the end of the school day, your child may be covered with paint or mud from head to toes.
For this reason, it's very important that your child brings extra clothes (including socks, shoes and underwear). You can also leave a set of clothes at the school. That way your child will be able to enjoy everything that we can offer him or her at Kaleide.
"Kanban" is Japanese for a visual card. A Kanban board is made up of columns (at Kaleide we shall be using Backlog, Ready, Doing and Done) and uses sticky notes to make our participants' plans visible and reflect their progress through the different stages of a project.
For an outside-of-school party, we ask that you please mail the invitations. Please do not hand them out within school, or in front of school.
We strongly urge parents to help their child plan the invitation list, to set a personal limit of including either:
the whole group, or
just a few children, or
less than half the group.
When more than half the group is invited, but not all the group, those children not invited definitely hear about it, and feel “left out” and hurt. When less than half the group is invited, children may find it easier to understand that parents limit the number of people at birthday parties and children have to make choices within that limit of who is closest to them. Please be sensitive to any issues of exclusion (e.g. inviting all of the girls except one from a group).
Please do not bring birthday presents to the school to avoid comparisons between the children.
Yes, as long as you let us know in advance.
The La Trinidad tram stop is a 20' walk from the school, mainly along quiet streets.
Bus stops 50, 51, 76, 77, 105, 270, 273, 274 and 275, that you can take from the bus station in La Laguna, all have stops on Paseo Oramas, which is approximately an 8' walk from Kaleide.
There's a public parking close to the school, in front of the Francisco Peraza stadium. On-street parking is also available in the neighbourhood, a few minutes' walk from Kaleide.
In exceptional financial circumstances we shall do our utmost to allow families a greater deal of flexibility in relation to payments. But our possibilities will always be subject to paying facilitators' salaries as well as all other expenses we are likely to incur. We will only be able to cut down fees if we can reduce our expenses during that period. In any case, we are committed to informing parents of these exceptional circumstances as soon as possible, from a position of honesty and clarity.
Some children can feel intimidated by the idea of having to make decisions about how to use their time at our school. Others can have difficulty to develop a plan for a project and organize the successive steps that will lead them to complete it. Kanban boards –which are frequently used in software development and in ) can be very useful in terms of setting ourselves challenges, reflecting on our learning process and inspiring others.
Children’s birthdays can be, and often are, celebrated at school by parents providing special snack or treats for everyone in their child’s group on a day prearranged with the pedagogical team. Please get ion touch with our facilitators so we can plan this ahead. We also ask that you take into account the dietary needs of all children and that you avoid foods from the list in the section on .
