Kaleide wants to contribute to sustainable mobility in the city of La Laguna. Given that we are close to the town centre and that public transport is also available, we would like to encourage families to reduce the use of cars, and promote active modes of transport such as walking or cycling, as well as the use of public transport.
As in many European cities –and a growing number of Spanish ones, such as La Laguna– we aim to help children develop road awareness and enable them to walk or cycle to school from a fixed meeting point where facilitators will collect them. This increases children's sense of autonomy as well as their physical and emotional well-being. On a social level, suggests that children's presence outdoors contributes to a sense of community and belonging in the wider society.
We are keen to take part in , a European Community project which promotes sustainable school travel, and establish a long-term collaboration with La Laguna Town Hall and other social agents, in line with the .
